Frequently Asked Questions

  1. How can I donate an item to the collection?

If you would like to make a donation to the Beloit Historical Society please email info@beloithistoricalsociety.com. You’ll be asked to send a photograph and fill out a form to document your donation or stop by to fill out the form and a member of our staff will photograph the object for you. 2. What can I donate?

The Beloit Historical Society actively collects objects, documents, and photographs that support our mission - Sharing Beloit's history to enhance community pride.

  3. Is there criteria for donations to the collection?

Space is limited, so we prioritize acquisitions that meet the below criteria:

    • Condition is suitable for handling, research, and exhibition.
    • Contributes to the understanding and interpretation of Beloit’s diverse history.
    • Collection history is well-documented and directly relates to the history of Beloit.

The BHS Collections Committee reviews all proposed gifts to determine if objects meet the above criteria and to ensure they do not duplicate objects of equal condition or historical value in the BHS collection.

  4. Is there anything you particularly need?

The BHS is invested in preserving and sharing the stories of community members that are often under-represented. Donations that help us tell these stories are needed.
